10 tips to drink more water

If knowing that water is extremely necessary for proper body functioning isn’t inspiring enough for you to guzzle more H2O, then how about the fact that it could lead to decreased body weight and body fat?

Got your attention? Whatever your motivation, try to drink 6-8 glasses of water a day. More if it’s hot, your exercising, or pregnant/nursing.

Here’s 10 tips to drink more water everyday:

1. Start the day off right- drink a glass of water when you wake up in the morning. (Before your morning cup of coffee)
2. Make it interesting- add lemon, lime, orange, or cucumber slices. Or if you like it sweet add strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, or cranberries. (try freezing the fruit too into fruit ice cubes)
3. Start a routine – drink water in the morning before you leave the house, drink in the car on the way to work or dropping kids off at school, drink during the day, between activities, drink before and after meals, and at night before bed.
4. Curb your munchies or snack attack – when your feeling a snack search coming on, try drinking a glass of water and see if you’re still interested in the snack. Saving calories and increasing water consumption- double bonus!
5. Always have water with you – buy a great water bottle, keep it full and within reach.
6. Set a timer – you’ve got a smart phone, now use it! Set a timer on your phone to go off every hour and remind yourself to drink at least 1/2 glass of water per hour.
7. Water not from a bottle – try eating water rich foods such as watermelon and tomatoes for a deliciously healthy water rich snack! (combine chopped watermelon, tomato, and feta cheese – drizzle with balsamic vinegar. Lunch!) and try yellow tomatoes for added color.
8. When you need more – drink an additional glass of water if you have a cup of coffee or tea.
9. Skip the soda – opt for sparkling water with lemon/lime, orange zest, or berry mix. Again, saving calories and increasing water consumption!
10. Heat it up – if cold water gets boring, heat it up and add lemon, orange, or crushed berries

Notice the addition of fruits and veggies? Added nutrient intake!
Remember, by the time you “feel” thirsty, hour body is already strutting to dehydrate.
Another bonus- you drink more, you visit the restroom more… For those of you who sit for a good portion of the day this is a great way to remember to get up and move often. Move more, burn more calories…who knew drinking water could be so awesome and have so many rewards?!

  2. I drink one regular glass/bottle of water between each bottle/glass of water that I mix something into (I drink more and make sure I am not overloading on artificial ingredients that are usually in the mixers like crystal light). Thanks for the tips!
